Zinio, LLC Wins Industrial Design Excellence Gold Award
Brisbane, CA (July 7, 2003) - Zinio, LLC, the market leader
in delivering digital magazines for major publishing partners, today announced
it was honored with a gold 2003 Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA)
- the premier award for industrial design.
The Zinio Reader, which stores and presents digital magazines,
received top-honors from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA)
and BusinessWeek magazine for having one of the year's hottest
and best designs. The only desktop software that delivers a full magazine
reading experience to computer screens recently launched rich media version
1.4, which incorporates music, movie trailers and television commercials
into magazines.
"We are honored to be held in such esteemed company with Logitech, Palm
and BMW for an award in design excellence," said Pam Horan, Vice President
of Marketing for Zinio, LLC "Zinio designed its Zinio Reader
in an easy-to-read format that likens reading a magazine on your computer
with the print version."
The Business Week IDEA report described Zinio's gold award as "the
power-of-experience design is evident in the gold-winning software Zinio
Reader. It combines the magazine reading experience -the turning of pages,
color images, navigation through headlines and charts and advertising
- with interactivity. It's simply dazzling, with subscribers being able
to download video clips and interact directly with advertisers."
Seeking to re-create the experience of reading a magazine as closely as
possible, the Zinio Reader was created by design firm IDEO. Human Factors
specialists studied how people read magazines, such as on a train or at
their desk. IDEO's research noted how readers flip through magazines,
use visual memory cues to find articles or advertising, and mark pages
with Post-Its or dog-ears. As a result, designers created a highly-intuitive
interface that enhances, rather than detracts from, the act of reading
digital media. The software also allows readers to store multiple magazines,
creating an easily accessible digital library.
Since March 2002, Zinio has delivered more than 6 million digital magazines
to 400,000 customers in 200 countries. Zinio currently delivers more than
70 titles, including BusinessWeek, Motor Trend, Harvard Business Review
and PC Magazine from 30 leading publishers. Major partners include
McGraw-Hill, Primedia, Technology Review Inc., Ziff-Davis, Reed Business
Information and IDG.
